J. Henry ( Hank) Zimpleman was born on June 25, 1921 in Williamsburg, Iowa, a son of William and Marie Roemig Zimpleman. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1939. On February 14, 1944, he married Clara Hansemann in Williamsburg. Hank served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for over 35 years, retiring in 1979. Clara preceded him in death on November 8, 1976. On July 8, 1978 Hank married Arlene Wilson in Indianola, Iowa. Hank was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Williamsburg Lion's Club, The Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Association, and had served as a volunteer fireman. During the late 1960's, he served as Mayor of Williamsburg. Hank enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and being part of the Williamsburg community. He died on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 88 years and 29 days. He is survived by his wife Arlene of Williamsburg; son Larry (Kathi) Zimpleman of Cumming, IA; step-children: David Wilson of Grand Junction, CO; Jeffrey Wilson of Williamsburg, IA; Melissa Daggett of Des Moines, IA; Joseph Wilson of Parnell, IA; Tobias Wilson of Williamsburg, IA; 11 grandchildren: Jonathan Zimpleman, Jennifer Covington, Jeffrey Zimpleman, Christopher Zimpleman, Thomas Zimpleman, Susie Daggett, Teri Daggett, Bobbi Daggett, Rachael Wilson, Annie Marske and Hannah Wilson; 3 great grandchildren: Michael & Elizabeth Covington and Scarlett Marske. Hank was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clara, son William Zimpleman, step-son Bryan Wilson and a brother Lloyd Zimpleman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Visitation will he held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg on Sunday, July 26, 2009, from 5 PM to 8 PM. Burial with military rites will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church or American Heart Association.
