KEOTA-Yok Choun, age 70, of Keota, died Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Yok was born June 7, 1951, in Pailin, Cambodia, to Haum and Yau (Chheoun) Choun. He married Sarin Tuy in 1973 in Cambodia. Yok helped thousands of Cambodian refugees into Thailand over several years before moving to Keota in 1979. He worked as a bricklayer, manufacturer and custodian before becoming the butcher at what is now Keota Eagle Foods for 37 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, casinos, lottery tickets, joking with people, and wood working.
Survivors include his wife: Sarin of Keota; two daughters: Sangao Choun of Waukee, Saran Choun of Waukee, three sons: Yor (Alisa) Choun of North Liberty, Sande (Linsey) Choun of North Liberty and Chawn Choun of Waukee and eight grandchildren: Anna Bunn, Noble Bunn, Gwen Choun, Devon Choun, Cameron Choun, Lena Davis, Elym Choun and Olivet Choun; two sisters: Puch Chuon and Tream Chuon, and a brother: Tuch Chuon. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sangeam Chuon.
