Ying Vang, age 78 of Marengo, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Rose Haven Nursing Home. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Robert Dugger celebrant. Visitation: 4 to 6 P.M., Saturday, December 8, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A private family burial will be at a later date. A memorial fund in his name has been established.
Ying is survived by his children, Feuang Kavanh (Mine) of Marengo, Theuang Vang of Fort Worth, TX, Thing Vongvilay (Savany) of Marengo, Bouaphanh Sayachak (Jack) of Euless, TX, Phairot Hoang (Phomsamay), of Joliet, IL, Angie Luong (Anthony) of West Des Moines, Sengdao Vanlo (Por) of Iowa City, Vinai Vang (Jennifer) of Solon, and Lokhoy Brecht (Joel) of Marengo; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; two nephews Kong Vang and Tai Vang; and a niece Yeng Lovan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nan, his parents, and a son Tim Vang.
Ying Vang was born on June 4, 1940, to Khoa and La Vang in Lau Choi, Vietnam. At age nine, Ying joined the army and followed his sister to Vientiane, Laos. He married Nan Quang in 1957 in Laos at the age of 17. Ying and Nan lived in Vientiane, Laos where they had 10 children. He worked as a surgeon assistant until 1982 when the couple and their 10 children came to the United States to get away from the political unrest. They settled in Marengo, where Ying worked at HACAP, Rose Haven Nursing Home and then Pride of Iowa.
Ying was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was very active in the Laotian community. He will be deeply missed.
