WELLMAN - Wilma Jean Hohenshell was born January 13, 1922 on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Valentine, South Dakota the daughter of William Keith and Lulu (Parks) Morrow. Her family moved to Kinross, Iowa in her youth. She graduated from Kinross High School. On August 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lewis E. Hohenshell, at the Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked for Maple Crest for 10 years, then worked at the University of Iowa Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor for 25 years, retiring in 1986. Lewis and Wilma lived in Wellman for over 60 years. Wilma moved to the Halcyon House in Washington in February of 2005. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Wilma was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Cubs fan, and she enjoyed playing bingo. Wilma died suddenly on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington at the age of 87 years. Wilma is survived by a son Larry (Linda) Hohenshell of Ankeny, IA; 2 daughters Connie (Lain) Messer and Patricia (Harry) Karnes all of Washington, IA; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis on December 29, 2008; and a sister Leora LeFever. Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Rich Pippert will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 - 2:00 P.M., at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Memorials are for the Halcyon House in Washington.
