Wilma Mary Harl

Williamsburg-Wilma Mary Harl was born May 15, 1925, in Wayne County, Iowa.  The daughter of P. Dee and Emma (Heilman) Bettis.  She graduated from Seymour High School and received her B.A. at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.  Wilma was united in marriage to James Arthur Harl on August 19, 1949, in Seymour.  She was an Elementary Ed teacher for Adair-Casey School for 20 years retiring in 1989.   They lived in Casey until 2004 when they moved to Williamsburg.  She was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Casey and now a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg.  She was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Wilma enjoyed flower gardening, baking, reading, bird watching, playing cards, Chinese Checkers and playing Yahtzee and camping, especially at the Iowa State Fair. Wilma died Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by two children, Marilyn Manning of Chandler, Arizona and Eldon (Julie) Harl of Williamsburg; son-in-law Bruce Hutton of Mount Ayr; four granddaughters, Shae (Ryan) Wilhelm, Dana (Brian) Gilleland, Sarah Harl and Beth Harl; three great grandchildren Ava Wilhelm, Brayden Rohr and Cayleigh Rohr.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2008, and a daughter Barbara in 2014.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.  Burial will be 1:30 pm on Monday at the South Lawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa.  A memorial fund has established for St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg or the United Methodist Church in Casey.  Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
