Willis "Bill" Carl Severt was born August 1, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Rex C. & Betty R. (Jones) Severt. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School, University of Northern Iowa and later received his Masters in Music from Northwestern University. On December 2, 1978, Bill was united in marriage to Sheila Jean Ballard at the North English Methodist Church. He worked at Amana Refrigeration and later at the University of Iowa Hospitals for 31 years, before retiring in 2010. Bill attended the North English Christian Church, where he sang in the choir and attended Bible study. He was a member of the Horseshoe Gun Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, ping pong and playing with his golden retriever "Lucy". Bill and Sheila's gift was doing for others. Bill died on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City at the age of 63 years.
He is survived by his wife Sheila of North English; 3 grandchildren: Sloan, Sierra and Cody; his father Rex of Washington; a brother Allen (Julia) of West Des Moines; a sister Linda Dasovic of Omaha; a brother-in-law Chester (Carol) Ballard of North English; and his beloved golden retriever "Lucy". He was preceded by his mother Betty; daughter Sonia Jean Severt; father and mother-in-law Kenny & Jessie Ballard; and a sister-in-law Janice Masters
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Luke Caster will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 10:00 am until service time at 12:00 PM. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
