KEOTA-William "Bill" Van Sickle, Jr., age 87, of Keota, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Bill was born November 1, 1920, in West Chester, Iowa, to William and Irma (Tansey) Van Sickle and graduated from West Chester High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On December 29, 1947, Bill married Marjorie Wright in Keota. The couple lived in the Keota community where Bill farmed for 14 years. He worked for the Washington County Highway Department for 26 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked for Cassens Mill. Bill was a member of the United Church of Faith in Keota and enjoyed bowling, woodworking, spending time on the computer, watching t.v. and being with his family. Survivors include his wife: Marjorie of Keota; three daughters: Patricia Ann Greiner and husband John, Cheryl Altenhofen and husband Robert and Tonia Greiner and husband Leon, all of Keota; one son: James Van Sickle and wife Terry of Keota; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; one sister: Margery Johnson of Pleasant Plain and one brother: Lyle Van Sickle of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson: Justin Greiner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
