William L. O'Meara was born July 7, 1926 in rural Iowa County, Iowa. The son of Michael J. and Agnes Loretta (Berry) O'Meara. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1943. Bill served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany from 1944-1946. After returning home he attended Business School at the University of Iowa. Bill worked for Price Waterhouse and he retired as an executive with John Morrell & Co. Bill made his home in Chicago for more than 50 years and took great enjoyment in hosting family and friends who visited him there. His sharp sense of humor was familiar to all who know him, as was his sincere attention to detail, which served him well in his professional and personal endeavors. Bill touched so many with his kindness and generosity and taught all of us to enjoy life. He will be remembered most for the pleasures he found with and special attention he paid to all of his many family and friends. Bill passed away peacefully at his home, the Clare at Water Tower in Chicago at the age of 85 years. Bill is survived by two brothers: Clement (Connie) O'Meara of Northfield, MN and Hugh (Irene) O'Meara of Williamsburg; two sisters: Mary (Bob) Wagner and Helen (John) Gaffey all of Willaimsburg and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Donald O'Meara and wife Pat and Cyril O'Meara and wife Janice, a niece Christy Gaffey and a nephew Mick Gaffey. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 9:00 AM in the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery near Millersburg, followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English at 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday June 9, 2012 at the Chapel at the Clare in Chicago. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Catholic Charities, 721 N LaSalle St., Chicago, IL 60610 or donor's choice.
