William Lyle Wade, 93 of Wellman Iowa died at Parkview Manor, Wellman on Friday, August 25, 2006 from complications of age. Mr. Wade was born June 4, 1913 in rural Iowa County near Wellman, Iowa the son of William John and Bertha L. Tracy Wade. He grew up in rural Wellman and married Mildred I. Cover on June 4, 1936 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He lived all his in the Wellman community. He attended Mid-Prairie rural school and graduated from Wellman High School in 1931. He taught school at Mid-Prairie Rural School four years and one year at Green Valley. Mr. Wade then joined his father as owner and operator of Wade & Co. Inc. in 1938. He continued in the business until 1983, first with his father and then from 1966 with his son, Jon as an International Harvester and Pontiac Dealer. He also had a farming operation, Wade Ranch, north of West Chester, Iowa. He served as Mayor of Wellman for twelve years. During his terms the city-owned natural gas system was built, the city hall, library and fire station among other projects. He also served on the Mid-Prairie School Board for ten years during the formation of this consolidated school system. He was a fifty-year Rotary member, Dayton Lodge #149, KAABA Shrine and member of the Wellman Asbury Methodist Church. Mr. Wade is survived by his wife Mildred of 70 years, daughter Lyla Lee Walder and husband Ralph of Cissna Park, Illinois and son Jon Dennis Wade and wife Donna of Wellman, four grandchildren; Jennifer Marie Wade Nicholson, Wellman, Corey Jon Wade, VanMeter, IA, Andrew Leon Wade, West Chester and April Lee Walder, Sachse, TX; six great-grandchildren: Derek Jon Nicholson, Tyler Scott Nicholson, Brandon Jon Wade, Hunter Browning Wade Walder, Ella Marie Wade, and Joshua Andrew Nicholson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lynn, Olin, Elwin, Duane, and sister Wilna.
A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Fire Department, WellmanVolunteer Ambulance, and Parkview Manor.
