SIGOURNEY-William"Bill" Louis Roberts, age 81, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, formerly of Sigourney, died Friday, November 9, 2012, at his home. Bill was born April 10, 1931 in Sigourney to Milferd "Pug" and Tarana Cox Roberts. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1949. He started in the men's clothing business in 1947 for Pfaff and Holt in Sigourney. He went to the service and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1952-1954. After returning from the Army he lived in Sigourney for a short time before moving to Waverly in 1955 to work for Leuthold-Johannson Clothing until 1961. He then moved to Waterloo to work with Larry's Clothes as buyer and manager. In 1978 Bill returned to sigourney and with his wife Linda owned and operated Sox N' Sideburns (men's clothing and barbershop) and continued until closing in 1991. Bill was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church. Bill was married to Marilyn Chestnut and she died 2 weeks after their son Radley was born. He later married Marla Barthlomew and they were the parents of Scott. In 1977 he married Linda Hurst. Survivors are two sons Radley A. of San Francisco, California and Scott W. and his wife Tammy of Grand Prairie, Texas; two grandchildren Hilary Roberts Lee and Clinton Roberts; great grandson Drake Lee; brother Jim and his wife Joyce of Puyallup, Washington; a niece and nephew Jill Tresslar and Jeff Roberts; stepson Darby Hurst and 4 step grandchildren Amanda, Austin, Jesse and Hana. Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were his first wife Marilyn Chestnut Roberts and a brother Junior Roberts. A memorial graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. There will be no visitation.
