SIGOURNEY-William Lee Moore, age 72, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Bill was born June 7, 1938, in Sigourney, to Isabell W. and Ralph H. Moore and graduated from Sigourney High in 1956. In 1961 he was drafted into the Army, stationed at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Virginia. While there, he met the love of his life and soul mate, Karen Hill. They later married at her home in Tabb, York County, Virginia on June 27, 1964. Bill and his new wife then returned to Sigourney and made it their life-long home. In the summer of 1969, they moved to their house on North Main and had their first and only child, Leigh, who now resides with her husband and their two children in Dallas, Texas. Bill was a member of the Sigourney Presbyterian Church. He worked for numerous construction companies prior to being drafted in the Army. After returning home with his new wife, Bill worked for Iowa Culvert Builders for 40+ years. Bill enjoyed deer hunting with his friends, tending his large flower and vegetable gardens with his wife Karen, caring for his herd of cats, and spending time on the computer which was one of his favorite past times. He and his wife were Iowa snowbirds enjoying the warmer Texas climate in their motor home. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Leigh, two grandchildren, Riley and Madalyne, brothers Walter and Harrison, both of Sigourney, half-sisters Geraldine Shipley of Delta and Hilda Knottnorus of Washington, numerous nieces and nephews and his cats. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Frank. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney, with Revs. Jim Stout and Jim Bringman officiating. Burial will be at Doggett Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Presbyterian Church and Mahaska Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Bill and his family.
