KEOTA-William L. Hultman, age 79, of Keota, died Sunday, January 19, 2014, at his home. Bill was born September 20, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa, to John and Alma (Loeb) Hultman. He grew up in the Westgate community, graduated from Maynard High School and received his B.A. at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Bill then served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and also served in the Army Reserves during Desert Storm. On July 20, 1963, he married Patricia Tripp in Grundy Center, Iowa. Bill taught at Aplington for 10 years before moving to Keota, where he taught English, speech, drama and plays at Keota High School for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Bill was a member of the United Church of Faith, the Iowa High School Speech Association, the Amvets, an honorary member of the Keota V.F.W. Post #4716 and served on the Keota School Board. Bill was also a former member of the Washington Community Theater and Y's Men. He directed several community plays in the Keota, Sigourney and Washington areas. Survivors include his wife: Patricia of Keota; daughter: Andrea (Dan) Striegel of Delta; son: Larry (Lynnette) Hultman of Keota; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Kathlyn Moeller of Parker, Colorado, Mary Fink of Aplington and four brothers: James Hultman of Prairie Village, Kansas, Charles Hultman of Lexington, Kentucky, Lloyd Hultman of Westgate and Howard Hultman of Dayton, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Donald Hultman and sister: Frances Brudvig. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Rev. Sheldon Henderson officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the United Church of Faith in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Veterans Memorial.
