William Loren Geary, Sr. age 84, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at his home. A private family gathering was held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Military honors were conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Marengo American Legion Post #76. Memorials may be contributed in William’s name, to Safe Haven of Iowa County, 2783 Hwy 6 Trail, South Amana, IA 52334 .
William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois; three children, Bill “Billy” (Michelle) Geary, Jr., of Marengo, Tony Geary, of Blairstown, and Kathy (Larry) Huffman, of Branson, MO; two siblings, Dewey (Kay) Geary, Jr., Betty (Frank) Odekirk; seven grandchildren, Jessica Geary, Vincent Geary, Abigail (Doug) Miller, Benjamin Johnson, Amelia (Brad) Fajardo, Danielle McMenomy and Dalton McMenomy; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, Gage Geary and three brothers, Norman, Lawrence and Francis Geary.
William was born on March 22, 1939, in Stanley, the son of Dewey and Velma (Axline) Geary. He attended Oelwein Community Schools and later received his GED. William was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving our country from 1956-1962. He was united in marriage to Lois Timmerman on August 19, 1960, in West Union. He was employed at Amana Refrigeration as a third shift supervisor and later owned and operated Geary’s Radiator, in Marengo for 25 plus years.
William was never without the love of his family. He was a family man and he enjoyed spending all the time he could with them. Some of the time spent with family, included going on motorcycle rides together, hunting and fishing, along with competition shooting and traveling. He loved dogs, always having one by his side and being outdoors.
