Wellman- William James Brown was born January 14, 1925, in Douds, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Elsie (Davidson) Brown. William served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. On April 27, 1946, William was united in marriage to Evelyn Broherd. He was a farm hand until 1957, worked a milk route, drove for Farmers Supply for seven years worked at Home Gas for 23 years. William enjoyed reading, word search, putting puzzles together and golfing in his younger years. William passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 96 years.
William is survived by two daughters: Janice Long of Brighton, Sharon (Larry) Miller of Wellman; a daughter-in-law Shirley Brown of Wellman; 8 grandchildren; Beth Ann Long, Tony Long, Trisha Miller, Kevin Miller, Kristi Strickland, Karissa Brincks, Stacey Brown and Shaylee Adrian; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a brother Charles Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, a son Dennis Brown, son-in-law Max Long; two brothers: Stanley and Millard Brown and seven sisters: Hildred Emery, Mabel McLain, Helen Thomas, Hazel McLaughlin, Opal Wilcox, Leona Parks and Beatrice Jones.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, with Pastor Joseph Brown officiating. Private family burial will be at Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.
