William H. “Bill” Kurth, age 93 of Marengo, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Father David Wilkening officiating. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the church. Burial will be at St. Patricks St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins, with military honors conducted by Marengo American Legion Post 76 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Essence of Life Hospice or the Marengo American Legion Post 76. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bill is survived by his wife Doris; a son David (Judy) Kurth of West Des Moines, and a daughter Diane (John) Boyles of Fairfield; nine grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay) Kurth of Urbandale, Joseph (Jada) Kurth of Sioux City, Sarah (David) Jensen of Cedar Rapids, James (Marianne) Kurth of Marion, Mark (Bethany) Boyles of Keosauqua, Deborah (Steven) Welter of Montgomery, IL, Elisabeth(Nick) Parilo of Alburnett, John Boyles of Cedar Rapids, and Jenny (Joe) Patterson of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jimmy in infancy, and his siblings.
William Henry Kurth was born December 4, 1928, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Verna W. Kurth and Florence Kanke Kurth. He attended the rural Iowa County schools and then Marengo schools. Bill served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years stationed in China. He and Doris Lohrer were united in marriage on March 28, 1951, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. To this union three children were born.
Bill was employed with the Leo Kelly Company for 20 years, and the Iowa Department of Transportation for 30 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, the Knights of Columbus and the Marengo American Legion Post 76.
Bill enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, and he was always looking for a good garage sale, and any “GOOD” deal.
