William "Bill" Dale Cortum

Kalona- William "Bill" Dale Cortum was born December 21, 1952, in Washington County, the son of Raymond and Oriet (Tesdahl) Cortum. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1971 and started farming, he also worked at Walmart and the meat locker in Kalona. He was united in marriage to Colette Yoder on August 12, 1984 and they later divorced. Bill enjoyed Nascar, watching sports and watching the nightly news. Bill passed away Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home in Kalona at the age of 66 years.

Bill is survived by three sons: Kevin Cortum of Kalona, Sean Cortum (Shannyn Paul) of Washington and Ryan Cortum (Payton McCallister) of Iowa City, a brother John (Rita) Cortum of Mediapolis, two nephews BJ and Bobby Cortum and a niece Catherine Delzell. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be 7:00 pm Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Mid-Prairie Football team.
