William "Bill" Anderson

William "Bill" Anderson, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home. A visitation will be held from 12-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 11th, at the Memorial Chapel with Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to HCI Care Services and the American Heart Association. Born March 31, 1930 in Goreville, IL, William Oscar was the son of Homer and Velma (Sullivan) Anderson. He attended a country school near his home. On September 7, 1957 he married Esther Irene Eicher in Davenport, IA. For nearly 40 years, Bill worked as a cook at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. He was a loving dad and grandpa who enthusiastically followed his granddaughters in their activities. He was a great cook and enjoyed family trips to Yellowstone and North Carolina. With a passion for the outdoors, Bill loved to hunt, trap and fish. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #8 and attended First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Esther of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Karol (Wes) Shaffer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two granddaughters, Laura and Kristen Shaffer both of Des Moines, IA; three sisters, Delores Taylor of Austin, TX, Delonda (Lewis) Robinson of Goreville, IL and Janet (Jerry) Billingsley of Buncombe, IL; four nephews, Ken Taylor, Steve Taylor, Jason Billingsley and James (Audrey) Robinson; a great nephew, William Robinson; a great niece Chisolm (Bill) Cardwell; and a great-great niece, Lena Cardwell.
