Amana-Willard Louis Hegewald was born the son of Otto and Louise (Muesse) Hegewald on May 21, 1931 in Middle Amana. He graduated from Amana High School in 1950. Willard was united in marriage to Joan Lucille Greiner on September 7, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. Together the couple made their home in Middle Amana. Willard worked for Amana Refrigeration for 43 years retiring in 1994. He enjoyed wood working, yard work, bird watching and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Willard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford were he enjoyed volunteering. Willard passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha at the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his wife Joan of Amana; five children: Steve (Terry) Hegewald of Keota, Tom (Sharon) Hegewald of Williamsburg, Barbara (Bruce) Heishman of Walford, Leon (Rhonda) Hegewald of Amana and Marla (Joseph) Tursi of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild and a sister: Harriet Bierman of Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Kenneth Bierman.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a rosary followed by a prayer service at 4:00 pm.
