Wilbur Wilson, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, IA passed away, Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Forest Home Cemetery with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Bachman-Wilson Family Scholarship at Southeastern Community College. Born August 24, 1917, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Wilbur Raymond was the son of Arley Alexander and Ruth Cecilia (Barry) Wilson. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1936. On September 7, 1940, he married Josephine Lyon at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death in April 23, 1981. During WWII Wilbur was a foreman for Kaiser Permanente in the Richmond California Shipyards installing ventilations systems in the Liberty ships. Upon returning to Mt. Pleasant, he owned and operated Wilson Plumbing and Heating for 40 years. He was also a farmer. He was of the Christian faith. Favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was a member of the Skunk River Boat Club. An avid horseman, he broke many horses for riding. Survivors include a son, Ray (Regina) Wilson of New London, IA; a daughter, Bonnie Bachman of Rolla, MO; and a nephew, John (Carol) Ledger of Glendale, AZ. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife; a son, Edwin Wilson; two sisters, Marguerite Ledger and Gladys Nadalin; a grandson, Chad Bachman; and a son-in-law, Dennis Bachman.
