Williamsburg- Wilbur "Joe" Ernest Joseph, was born August 31, 1923, in Houston, TX the son of Walter and Elsie (Prochnow) Joseph. He graduated from Seward Concordia High School and College. He served in the US Army at Camp Roberts, California. After graduating college, he taught at Immanuel Lutheran School, Williamsburg. Joe was united in marriage to Dorothy Newkirk on June 21, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. The following fall they moved to Klinger, where he was a principal for 4 ½ years. At this time he had an opportunity to move back to Iowa County where he farmed with his father-in-law, Walter. He remained actively farming for over 40 years. Joe was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as a treasurer and elder. In the community he served on the Farm Bureau Board, a 12 year term on the Williamsburg School Board, in which 7 of those years he was president. He was able to hand each of his girls their high school diplomas. He loved to fish and always had a story to share. Joe died on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, after complications of pneumonia, at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Williamsburg; daughters Andrea (Harlan) Possehl, of Williamsburg, Roxane (Larry) Booth of Winter Haven, FL, Valorie (Dave) Adler of Omaha, NE, Ronda Joseph and Brenda Joseph both of Williamsburg; 5 grandchildren: Stacey Possehl, Michael Possehl (special friend Bianca), Brad James, Dan Adler and Rachel Adler; great granddaughter Courtney James (and her mother Ami Conner); sister Lorene (Herb) Morlok, 3 brothers Jerry (Lorena) Joseph, Walter Lee (Kathy) Joseph and James (Faye) Joseph; and a brother-in-law Bill Timm. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Erwin Joseph (as an infant), Ed (Vivian) Joseph, Herb (Gloria) Joseph, and Louis (Phyllis) Joseph; a sister Delores Timm; and a sister-in-law Marion Joseph. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg.
