Wesley Totemeier

Wesley D. Totemeier, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at his home. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. A private family service will be held. Mr. Totemeier's body has been cremated. Inurnment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield at a later date. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa. Born June 16, 1937, in rural Henry County, IA, Wesley was the son of Wesley H. and Bessie Fern (Miller) Totemeier. He was a 1955 graduate of New London High School. Mr. Totemeier enlisted and served for many years in the Iowa National Guard. On October 6, 1961, he married Doris E. Hupp in New London, IA. Following his high school graduation, Wesley worked for the Iowa - Illinois Telephone Company and was also engaged in farming. He became a certified journeyman electrician and worked for many years for Mid States Electric. In October of 1991, he returned to Mt. Pleasant, where he worked for a number of companies, contracting electrical work before retiring in 2002. Mr. Totemeier was a former member of the Masons and the Moose Lodge. He was a vivacious reader and an avid NASCAR fan. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wesley is survived by his wife, Doris of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter, Stacy (Dennis) Speidel of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one son, Glenn Totemeier of Florida; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cody) Allison of Des Moines, IA; Daniel Speidel of Cedar Rapids, IA; Andrea (Ryan) Fulton of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Ward and Sawyer Fulton of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and by one sister, Wanda Coop of California. Mr. Totemeier was preceded in death by his parents.
