KALONA - Wendell William Nisly was born December 2, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William and Edith (Swartzendruber) Nisly. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1966, and attended Eastern Mennonite College. Wendell served 2 years in 1W service in Miami, Florida. On July 21, 1968 Wendell was united in marriage to Muriel Miller at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. He drove truck for Pella Meats, co-owner of Niser Hogs, worked for Nisly Foodland, co-owner of Kalona Sales Barn, worked as a salesman for English River Pellets and Roth Feed and Seed, was an Insurance Agent for Menno Services and delivered pharmaceuticals for Reliant Long Term Care. Wendell served as Treasurer for the MCC Relief Sale, and was a certified weather spotter for KCRG. Wendell enjoyed cooking, yard work, bird watching, and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. Wendell passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 70 years.
Wendell is survived by his wife Muriel of Kalona; daughter Brigette (Adam) Ingersoll of Iowa City; son Shane Nisly of Kalona; 4 grandchildren Grace, Henry, Charlie, Teddy; and 7 siblings Rachel (Alvin) Kemp of Kalona, Sheldon (Miriam) Nisly of Kalona, Weldon (Margaret) Nisly of Seattle, WA, Jenelle (Dwight) Bender of Kalona, Marcus (Sandra) Nisly of Elkhart, IN, Hope Nisly (Doug) Kliewer of Reedley, CA, and Ross (Lynn) Nisly of Hutchinson, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 AM Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-7 PM on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 5-7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Alms Fund at Kalona Mennonite Church and the Student Aid Fund at Iowa Mennonite School.
