Wayne (Sliver) William Moffit was born on July 30, 1917 in Green Valley, east of North English, IA, the son of William and Bessie Simmons Moffit. He attended the Green Valley School. Wayne was united in marriage to Martha Ella Denison on April 9, 1938 in Lancaster, Mo. He farmed in Green Valley all of his life and lived on his present farm for 66 years. Wayne and Martha wintered in Arizona for many years until he could no longer drive the long trip. They also enjoyed their trips to Tama. Wayne died following an extended illness at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA on Monday, August 21, 2006. He lived 89 years and 22 days. Wayne is survived by his wife Martha Moffit of North English, IA; a son Robert E. Moffit and wife Gay of North English; three granddaughters: Debra (Clay) Toler of Glen Alan, Virginia; Sherrie (Ron) Maschmann of Millersburg, IA; Kristi (Scott) Jones of Council Bluffs, IA; 12 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; a brother Harold Moffit of Central City, IA; and 4 sisters: Velda Schauff of Wellman, IA; Ruby Mayes of DeSoto, Missouri; Arlene Swenson of Yuba City, CA; and Mildred Walters of Iowa City, IA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dean Moffit and sisters: Emmagene Myers, Ida Herrick, Donna Perrin and Ruth Claypool. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English.
