Wayne Orlo "Shug" Coffman was born on September 25, 1931, near South English, IA, the son of Charles William and Cleo Belle Ruth Coffman. He attended Locust Grove country school and graduated from South English High School. Wayne received his B.S. Degree at Iowa State University in Ames. He married Phyllis Sorensen on October 29, 1955 in Albion, IA. He lived in Cedar Rapids, Green and most of his life in the South English Community. Wayne farmed and in later years drove a truck. He enjoyed working with horses, especially with horse teams. He was a member of the English River Church of the Brethren, Saddle Club and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Wayne died following a brief illness at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Friday, May 2, 2008. He lived 76 years, 7 months and 7 days. He is survived by a daughter Jill Coffman of Kalona, IA; 2 brothers Charles Coffman of Kimberling City, MO and Robert Coffman of Bluffton, SC; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, a son Randall Coffman, a brother John (Jack) Coffman, a niece and a nephew. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Brethren Cemetery near South English, IA with a Memorial Celebration of Life Service immediately following at the English River Church of Brethren near South English. Rev. Charles Grove and Rev. Marilyn Coffman & Paul Coffman will officiate. There will be no visitation. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service at the church.
