WELLMAN - Wayne Lamonte Miller was born November 29, 1925, in rural Johnson County, the son of Murrie S. and Katie (Marner) Miller. He attended Hickory Grove School. He was baptized at 13 years of age and became a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where he was adult and Primary Superintendent, MYF sponsor, trustee, and Sunday School teacher. Wayne was united in marriage to Audrey Brenneman on December 24, 1946. He was a life-long farmer in the Wellman area. In his younger days, Wayne was active in MDS. Wayne and Audrey served on the MCC relief sale committee in the early years of the sale in Iowa. He enjoyed woodworking and shared this talent with each family member. He also enjoyed his cattle, goats, and other exotic animals. Wayne enjoyed his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne passed away on Tuesday, October 23 ,2018, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 92 years.
Wayne is survived by three children: Kenton (Barb) Miller of Iowa City, Dennis (Rosie) Miller of Wellman, Laurel (Sid) Rowland of Wellman, 7 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren, a sister Pauline Yoder of Kalona, and in-laws: Clair (Faye) Brenneman of Colorado and Nita Erb of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Audrey, brother Stanley and grandson Andrew.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Monday, October 29, 2018 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will be held in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
Memorials are for Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Disaster Service, Iowa City Hospice or Pleasantview Home.
