Wayne Gary Silver was born on October 18, 1942 in Wadsworth, OH, the son of Henry and Arvella Walkden Silver. He graduated from Grafton High School in Grafton, OH, and Michigan State University. Wayne served two years in the U.S. Army and spent the majority of his professional career as a communication engineer for the Department of Defense in the European Theater. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Axmear on May 23, 1981 in Keswick, IA. They moved from Germany to St. Louis, MO in 1989. They made their home in North English after Wayne's retirement in 1994. He was an avid private pilot and had thousands of hours of flight experience. He enjoyed golf, traveling, cooking and electronic gear including computers. He was a former member of the Iowa Civil Air Patrol, was currently serving as president of the North English CO-OP Telephone Company Board of Directors, and a member of the Ross T. Hadley American Legion Post # 488. Wayne died in an ultralight plane crash close to his White Pigeon Airport, southwest of North English on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. He lived 62 years, 11 months and 2 days. Wayne is survived by his wife, Charlotte Axmear of North English. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Joan King. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, with Lynn Rumer officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the Salvation Army and the Humane Society.
