Wayne Cross

Wayne T. Cross, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Middletown, IA, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at the Emergency Room of the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the American Heart Association. Born December 14, 1950, in Burlington, IA, Wayne Thomas was the son of Norbert and Ruby Fry Cross. He was a 1969 graduate of Burlington High School. Mr. Cross served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He married Donna Whited. The couple later divorced. On April 28, 1978, he married Diane Ray. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1999. He later married Nancy Landes on January 12, 2001. Mr. Cross worked as a computer comptroller for J. I. Case. He later worked for Federal Mogul as a computer technician. After his retirement, he worked part time for the Time Out Sports Bar in Mt. Pleasant. He loved NASCAR racing and was a big Jeff Gordon fan. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and working in his yard. Wayne had a great interest in watching the weather and took classes in meteorology to increase his knowledge of weather patterns. His greatest love was spending time with his beloved Nancy and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; his mother, Ruby Cross of Burlington, IA; three sons, Chris Cross of West Des Moines, IA, Tom Cross of Alabama and Terry Landes II of Omaha, NE; three daughters, Diana Bragg of Gladstone, IL, Barbara Klein of Mt. Pleasant and Angie Williams of Denmark, IA; five brothers, Raymond Cross of California, Denny Cross of Danville, IA, Burton Cross of Chariton, IA, Paul Cross of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Jack Cross of Middleton, IA; five sisters, Nancy Burkett of Burlington, IA, Reva Davis of Morning Sun, IA, Becky Cutts of Peoria, IL, Lora Cross of San Clemente, CA and Terri Gordy of Danville, IA. Also surviving are ten grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Norbert Cross, two brothers, Milton Cross and Gale Cross, and by a son, Rodney Ray.
