Waneta Ledbetter, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Thursday, August 07, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living. The family will greet friends from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Moorman officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Henry County Animal Rescue Organization. Born August 29, 1922 in Makanda, IL, Waneta was the daughter of William Ross and Harriet Arabylle (Escue) Hines. She graduated from high school in Illinois. On August 27, 1946, she married Clifton Ledbetter in Martinez, CA. Waneta worked as an aide at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. She later worked as a clerk at Walgreen's Grocery Store. Always a homemaker she tended to her family needs. Favorite hobbies included fishing, gardening and camping. She enjoyed many animals especially her dogs. She was an avid reader and loved bluegrass music. Always ambitious, Waneta helped Cliff with roofing even when she was 80 years old. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Cliff; a son, John Ledbetter; a daughter, Janet Jo Ledbetter, all of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews including her niece, Kathy, and her husband, Kenny Hawkins, who were caregivers. Preceding her in death are her parents; a twin sister, Wanda, in infancy; a sister, Billie Spicer; a brother, Paul Hines; and a daughter-in-law, Thelma (Pat) Ledbetter.
