Wanda F. Miller, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019, from 1:00 7:00 p.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 15, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Luann Benge and Joan Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery near Mt. Union, IA. Memorials may be given to Hope Haven Development Center Corporation in Burlington or First United Methodist Church. Born October 23, 1928, in rural Mt. Union, IA, Wanda Frances was the daughter of James W and Iva (Reid) Helphrey. She grew up in the Mt. Union area and was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Union High School. Wanda attended Iowa Wesleyan College obtaining a teaching certificate, which she used to teach third grade in Keota, IA. On June 19, 1949, Wanda married Walter Harrison Miller, Jr. in Winfield, IA. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2003.
After Wandas marriage, she joined her husband in farming in the Pleasant Lawn area until moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1996. A member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she was active in U.M.W., Wanda served on various committees and boards. She made baptismal banners for the church since 1988. She enjoyed playing Bridge, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, along with do crocheting and needle work.
With a community spirit and dedication to many organizations in the community, Wanda was a member of many social and civic organizations, some of which included P.E.O. Chapter OX, T.T.T., Tuesday Study Club, and Westside Mothers Club. She was also a member of San Souci, volunteered at Henry County Health Center through R.S.V.P., and was a past member of Eastern Star.
Wanda is survived by four children, Patricia (Aaron) Coe of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Joan (Tom) Padley of Marion, IA, Teresa Miller of Burlington, IA, and James (Carmen) Miller of Scott City, KS; five grandchildren, Katie Padley-Bolo, Melinda Padley-Jones, Allison (Elad) Padley-Shapira, Cacee (Trevor) Cox , and Guy (Jessi) Miller; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving husband, Walter, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Riepe; and a brother, Robert Helphrey.
