Wanda "June" Leyda, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away at 12:05 a.m., on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Park Place Elder Living. According to her wishes, June has been cremated. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Sunset Cemetery near Moulton, IA. The Rev. Jim Schweizer of the Moulton First United Methodist Church will be officiating. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is assisting the family with arrangements. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Born August 25, 1931, in Moulton, IA, June was the daughter of Howard and Jennie Badger Daniels. She was a 1950 graduate of Moulton High School. On March 17, 1951, June married Bill Edwin Leyda in Bloomfield, IA. Following high school, June was a waitress at Alberts Restaurant in Bloomfield, IA, and then worked at the Bloomfield floral shop. She then moved to Ottumwa and worked in clothing retail. In 1972, June moved to Mt. Pleasant, where she was employed at The Kids' Closet and Spurgeons Clothing. June's greatest accomplishment was caring for her children and grandchildren. She especially treasured the time she spent in Panama with her husband as he guarded the Canal during the Korean Conflict. She enjoyed shopping for clothes, shoes, and purses. June was of the Methodist faith. Along with her loving husband Bill, of 65 years, June is survived by one son, Michael (Tina Sammons) Leyda of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one grandson, Roscoe Leyda of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three granddaughters, Ginny Leyda of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Kimberly Everette of Niceville, FL, and Samantha Sammons of Denver, CO; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Daniels of Moulton, IA; as well as several nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Wilma West, Bernise Pettis, and Hildred Rick; and three brothers, Gale Daniels, Clifford Daniels, and Russell Daniels.
