Walter "Mac" Holderness, 78, of Millersburg went to his eternal rest Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 following an accident. Visitation from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, Oct. 16 at Powell Funeral Home, North English, IA. Funeral service Saturday, Oct. 17, 10:30 AM at Millersburg Methodist Church. Burial, with military honors, Millersburg Cemetery. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Eunice; son Dan (Gloria) Coralville; grandchildren Mike (Katie) Perry, Independence; Michelle (Mike) Johnston, North Liberty; Brad Holderness and special friend Molly Cobb, New Orleans, LA; great grandchildren Will Perry, Parker and Kelsey Johnston; two sisters, Doris Gorsh, Williamsburg, and Shirley (Dennis) Gent, Webster and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lori and Tina; his parents; two siblings, Robert in infancy and Helen Opfer and brother-in-law Gene Opfer. Mac, son of Alice and Harry Holderness, was born Sept. 29, 1931, near Millersburg. He received his education from Millersburg School graduating in 1950. He was a member of the United States Army, 1952 - 1954, serving in the Korean War. Mac was united in marriage to Eunice Morse, Oct. 16, 1954. This began a 55 year love affair with family and farming. He was a member of the Millersburg Methodist Church; the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797, Williamsburg and drove a school bus for Deep River-Millersburg School the past 17 years. He loved working the land, his school children, country music, car races, family - especially the great grandchildren and his many friends. Mac was an exemplary father to special needs daughters. He was "Mr. Fix-It" and never knew a stranger. Mac will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Online condolences may be directed to www.powellfuneralmhomes.com.
