Wallace Fisher

November 12, 1922 — March 6, 2018

Wellman- Wallace Daniel Fisher was born November 12, 1922 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Daniel J. & Ida Mae (Miller) Fisher. He graduated from Sharon Center High School. On April 16, 1949 Wallace was united in marriage to Evelyn June Eash at West Union Mennonite Church, near Parnell, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with four children. Evelyn passed away on August 2, 1989. Wallace was the manager for Farmer's Electric for 45 years, retiring in 1992. On October 30, 1993 Wallace married Marilyn J. Kinsinger Slaubaugh in Wellman. Wallace was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church, rural Kalona, where he was active in many positions. He was a volunteer with Crowded Closet and a founding member of the Mennonite Disaster Service in 1951. He was an active member on the Sharon Telephone Board and the Pleasantview Home Board for many years. He enjoyed volunteering and just doing whatever needed to be done. Wallace died on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa at the age of 95 years.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Wellman; four children: Gretchen Fisher of Kula, Hawaii , Mary Christine (David) Charles of Sharon Center, Daniel (Julie) Fisher of Wellman and Ted Fisher (Robbi Bannon) of Stockholm, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; four step children Bonnie (Tom) Stuckey of Ohio, David (Faye) Slaubaugh, Jean (Bill) Schneider all of Wellman and Douglas (Carla) Slaubaugh of Parnell; 11 step grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren; a sister Virginia Hershberger of Goshen, Indiana and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded by his parents; 1st wife Evelyn; brothers Ralph Fisher, Clifford Fisher and Robert Fisher; sisters Lois Yoder, Pauline Maust, Mabel Mininger, Emma Maust and Ruth Fisher; and a son-in-law Stephen Kreider.

Celebration of life service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at East Union Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery at 9:30 am. Visitation will be at the East Union Mennonite Church Monday, March 19, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established for Mennonite Disaster Service and Central Plaines Mennonite Conference.
