Wallace Dale Marner was born March 29, 1926, in rural Kalona, Iowa the son of Chris and Mary (Gingerich) Marner. He attended Brush #8 rural school. On June 20, 1948 he was united in marriage to Leola Verl Stoltzfus at the Wellman Mennonite church in Wellman. He lived and farmed in the Wellman and Kalona communities all of his life. Wallace was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He volunteered for many MDS projects. Wallace enjoyed being outdoors and working on the farm. Wallace also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading and he loved the Lord. Wallace died on Monday, November 29, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 84 years. Wallace is survived by his wife Verl of Kalona; a son Dale Marner and wife Linda of Kalona; a daughter Karen Gugel and husband Duane of Kalona; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister Helen E. Yoder of Wellman; and a brother Ray Marner and wife Ruth of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 3, 2010 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson and Pastor Dick Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 pm at Yoder - Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A memorial fund has been established for the Mennonite Disaster Service.
