W. Wayne Edmundson, age 88, of 3505 English Glen Ave., Marion, IA, died at his home following a long illness on Saturday, May 19, 2007. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Internment will be in the Sorden Cemetery, near Webster, IA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, May 22nd from 4 PM to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Luke's Hospice and Summit Pointe Nursing staff. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Wayne was born on October 12, 1918 near Keswick, IA, the son of Orlando and Bessie (Reasoner) Edmundson. He graduated from Keswick High School in 1936 and attended classes at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Wayne married Arletta Fridley on February 8, 1939. Wayne was a farmer, grocer, insurance salesman, and a telephone company manager. He retired in 1982 as manager of South Slope Telephone Company in Norway, IA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion and a fifty year member of the Masons. Wayne proudly served on many boards and committees in the communities in which he lived. He is survived by his wife Arletta Edmundson of Marion, IA; daughters: Dixie (Leland) Fry of Cedar Rapids, IA and Sheryl Axmear of Urbandale, IA; Grandchildren: Kristin (Sara) Fry of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ethan (Molly) Fry of Marion, IA and Melissa (Nicholas) Hill of Ankeny, IA; Great grand children: Owen, Emily and Carter Fry, and Olivia Hill. Also surviving are sisters: Jessie Blaylock of North English, IA and Harriett (Gerald) Denison of Keswick, IA; Sisters-in-law: Ethyl Edmundson of Sigourney, IA and Joanne Edmundson of Fortville, IN. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Tadlock and brothers Dale Edmundson and Raymond Edmundson, son-in-law William T. Axmear and nephew Tony Edmundson. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
