Virginia Lee Peterson-Engel, was born July 14, 1930, in Houston, TX, the daughter of Alice Marie Kruse Jones. She graduated from Sundeen High School in Corpus Christi, TX in 1946. She grew up in Texas and lived in several communities after she was married. She married Keith Duane Peterson on January 19, 1946 in Corpus Christi, TX. He preceded her in death. She later married John T. Engel on October 27, 1996, in Burlington, Iowa. She worked for an electronics firm where she was a supervisor in quality control and an assistant engineer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, the Presbyterian Women's Association, the Parnell American Legion, the VFW Auxillary, Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed shopping, golfing, bowling, playing cards, laughing and most of all her family. Virgie died on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, at the age of 80 years. She is survived by her husband John Engel of Williamsburg; a daughter-in-law Donna Peterson of Williamsburg; 3 daughters- Pamela (Paul) Thompson of Geneseo, IL, Marsha (James) Mazour of West Des Moines, and Debora (Brian) Myers of Madrid; 5 stepchildren- Ken (Schael) Engel of Williamsburg, Nancy Engel of Edina, MN, Dr. Mike (Chris) Engel of Richmond, VA, David (Jane) Engel of Marshalltown and Jan (Scott) Evans of Ft. Collins. CO;10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; and a sister Lydia (Tom) Clendening of Trinidad, TX; a brother Harold Jones of Texas; a brother-in-law Rev. Oren (Patricia) Peterson of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Keith; a son Keith Duane Peterson, Jr., and a sister-in-law Adella. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. Pastor Kip Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4-7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg.
