HARPER-Catherine Virginia Ott, age 93, of Harper, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Virginia was born August 6, 1917, near Talleyrand, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Becker) Kiefer and attended Ss. Peter and Paul School. On April 12, 1939 she married Nick T. Ott at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. The couple lived in the Harper community, where Virginia worked at Maplewood Manor for 15 years as a nurse's assistant. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church since 1946 and a longtime member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Virginia was a loving daughter, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed quilting. Those left to honor her memory include a son: Gary Ott and wife Mary of Iowa City; two daughters: Sharon Beard and husband Bill of Columbus Junction and Cheryl Anderson and husband Lee of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren: Chris (Jennifer) Della Vedova, Nick (Jennifer) Della Vedova, Tom (Jeanie) Klotz and Kelly (Marlin) Nightengale; six great-grandchildren: Annika Della Vedova, Dominic Della Vedova, Audrey Della Vedova, Brock Della Vedova, Drew Della Vedova and Nicholas Klotz; three sisters: Lillian (Don) Bosley of St. Charles, Missouri, Vivian Stein of Hedrick and Darlene (Keith) Ruggles of Thornburg; two sisters-in-law: Colleen Kiefer of Keswick and Doris Kiefer of Maryvile, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Nick on January 8, 1995; sister: Genevieve Ott and brothers: Richard Kiefer and Kenneth Kiefer. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice.
