Virginia Lee Bombei

February 18, 1919 — January 14, 2018

KEOTA-Virginia Lee Bombei, age 98, of Keota, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at her daughter's home near Lockridge, where she had been living the last several years.
Virginia was born February 18, 1919, in Keokuk County, to John and Elizabeth ( Klett ) Redlinger and attended Valley country school. On November 10, 1949, she married Howard Bombei at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. A homemaker, Virginia lived in the Harper and Talleyrand communities most of her life. She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, now Holy Trinity Parish, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Virginia enjoyed playing cards, quilting, crocheting, family get togethers, weiner roasts at the farm and square dancing.

Survivors include six children: Gregory (Carla Graham) Bombei of Keota, Cheryl (David Whiting) Bombei of Iowa City, Karen (Rodger) Krogmeier of Lockridge, Rosemary (Gary) Lane of Mt Pleasant, Rhonda (David) Hackleman of Cedar Rapids and Thomas Bombei of Marion; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law: Marie Redlinger and Mary Lou Walker, both of Keota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Howard in 1995; granddaughter: Ashley Whiting and three brothers: Rosemond, Daryl and Richard Redlinger.
Memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in rural Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service and rosary at 4:00 p.m.
