Viola Karr

Washington- Viola Mae Karr was born July 5, 1944 in Franklin Township, Washington County. The daughter of Elmer and Faith (Palmer) Young.  She graduated from Mid-Prairie High School and then attending LPN training. She lived in the Washington, Wayland communities her whole life. Viola was an LPN at Washington Care Center from 1989 until retiring in 2002. On June 25, 1967 Viola was united in marriage to Gary Dale Karr in Washington. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Viola enjoyed reading a good book, reading scripture, traveling and church activists. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024 Viola passed away at Windsor Place Senior Living in Sigourney, Iowa at the age of 79.

 Viola is survived by her daughter Sandra Karr and son Jason Karr all of Wayland, a sister Sylvia Miller of Kalona and brother James Young of Coralville, Richard Young and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, husband in 2021, a infant sister Sandra Young, four sisters; Charlotte Lemley, Nela Gonterman, Patricia Carson and Wanda Brereton, four brothers; Eugene Young killed in WWII, Kenneth Young, Keith Young and Richard Young.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Wellman Cemetery in Wellman, Iowa.  A general memorial has been established. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Viola and her family.
