Dean Patterson Veryl Dean Patterson, 64, of Salem, IA, formerly of Ottumwa, IA, died Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Nathan Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory. Born February 17, 1942, in Chariton, IA, Dean was the son of Howard and Bernice Hawkins Patterson. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960. On April 30, 1965, he married Gayle Freshour in Unionville, MO. She survives. Mr. Patterson was employed at All American Trucklines, Lowenburg Bakery, Mid Continent Bottling, Cargill and was a bus driver for Burlington Trailways for 16 years. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, spending time outdoors, winter picnics, looking at jets, airplanes and eagles in flight, and watching movies, especially comedies. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren. Along with his wife, Gayle, Dean is survived by two sons, David (Kelly) Patterson of Eddyville, IA., and Dan (Kelly) Patterson of Salem, IA.; one daughter Patty (Robert) Johnson of Ottumwa, IA.; one brother Ken (Martha) Patterson of Brownsville, OR., and one sister Norma (Dave) Chadwich of Albuquerque, N.M.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
