Vernon Fisher was born February 10, 1918 near Parnell, Iowa the son of Samuel and Mary (Yoder) Fisher. He attended rural country school near Parnell. On July 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to Hilda L. Gingerich at her parents home in rural Parnell. They lived and farmed near Wellman for 50 years, until moving to Kalona in 1989. He was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church. Vernon died on Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a brief illness at the age of 87 years. Vernon is survived by a daughter - Cheryl Monemi and husband Shahriar of Orinda, California; a grandson - Rostein Monemi; a granddaughter - Marjohn Monemi; 2 sisters - Ferne Troyer of Kalona; Luetta Johnson of Bogart, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hilda in August of 2001; 5 brothers - Harold, Glen, Orlo, Waldo, Leonard; and 5 sisters - infant twin Velda Fisher; Leona Miller, Erma Kauffman, Lavanda Eash and Maggie Hochstetler.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home.
