Verna Weaver was born January 8, 1920 in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis J. and Ida (Helmuth) Miller. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in her youth, and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and remained faithful until her death. On January 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Alvin Weaver near Kalona, Iowa. Verna lived in the Kalona community all of her life where she was a homemaker. Verna died on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at her home near Kalona at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 19 days. Verna is survived by a son Simon Weaver and wife Barbara of Kalona; two granddaughters - Mary Beth Miller and husband Kenneth of Wellman; Rebecca Anne Weaver of Kalona; four great grandchildren - Dustin, Trevor, Christopher and Mariah Miller all of Wellman; six sisters - Emma Swartzentruber of Costa Rica; Mary D. Miller of Kalona; Bertha Brenneman of Kalona; Eunice Stutzman (Wilford) of Keota; Lavina Hochstetler (Nelson) of Flint, MI; Elsie Miller of Kalona; a brother Rudy D. Miller of Kalona; a sister-in-law Lena Miller of Kalona; and a brother-in-law Truman Weaver of Brookfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alvin in July of 2001; a sister Amelia Miller; two brothers - Simon and Jonas Miller; two sisters-in-law Mary Miller; Beulah Miller (Ivan); and three brothers-in-law Chris Swartzentruber, Amos T. Miller and Raymond Brenneman. We as a family thank you as family and friends for your love and support that you have shown through this time of our loss. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Perry Bender residence at 2710 560th St. S.W. in rural Kalona. Ministers in charge are Milford Miller and Delmar Bontrager. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and will continue all day on Monday at the Perry Bender residence. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
