Verna Ruth Boyd

d. February 10, 2024

Verna Ruth Boyd, age 77, died Saturday evening February 10, 2024.  She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones following a long battle with brain cancer.

Verna was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on June 8, 1946 to Dalton and Hazel Bible. She was one of ten children. She had always been family oriented growing up, loving all things “family”. On April 8, 1988 she married the love of her life, Gregory Boyd. They combined their two families, and started an amazing life together. Between them there were eight children, and the love flourished in this new family.

Verna enjoyed spending time at the occasional “Cachinger” or casino, testing her luck at the games. Her favorite place by far was the home she and Greg built by themselves from the ground up in Newell, South Dakota, which is also where she loved to spend time whenever she could get there. Verna was very full of life; she was a sassy, quick-witted lady and was never afraid to speak her mind, which is why everyone she met loved her so much. She will truly be missed by so many.

Verna is survived by her husband Gregory Boyd, eight kids, 22 grandkids, 19 great grandkids and 2 great-great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel and her father Dalton Bible, as well as eight of her siblings.

Verna will be buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Plymouth, Illinois. Those services will be handled by Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, Illinois.
