Verla M. Gingerich was born January 24, 1922 near Millersburg, Iowa the daughter of Leon and Hazel (King) Cover. She graduated from North English High School in 1939. She met Vern Gingerich in Iowa City and they were later married in Jacksonville, Florida on September 9, 1944. Vern was stationed there in the Navy. Upon his discharge they moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado. They moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1957, then to Rifle, Colorado in 1964. Verla and her daughter, Kathy, moved to Wellman, Iowa in 2000 to be closer to Verla's family. She enjoyed quiet times at home and also enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles and coloring with her great grandson, Wyatt. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Verla entered into heaven Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 83 years. Verla is survived by her daughter- Kathy Wells of Wellman, Iowa; granddaughter - Angela Thompson and husband Sean and great grandson Wyatt of Kalona, Iowa; grandson Glen Wells of Kingston, Washington; stepson Terry Gingerich and wife Anita of Demming, New Mexico; a sister - Mildred Wade and husband Lyle of Wellman, Iowa; a brother - Kenneth Cover and wife LaVonne of West Des Moines, Iowa; brothers-in-law Wayne and Clayton Gingerich of California; and many nieces, nephews and friends in Iowa, Colorado, and California. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern in 1998 after 54 years of marriage; and a sister - Velma Van Auken.
