WELLMAN - Verl Clark Davisson was born February 5, 1922 near Wellman, Iowa, the son of John and Velda (Herr) Davisson. He graduated from Wellman High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1945, he served with the 1st Infantry Division "Big Red One", on D-Day he was at Omaha Beach, was in the North Africa Campagne, and was at Battle of the Bulge. Verl earned 6 Battle Stars, 2 Invasion Arrow Heads, and 1 Bronze Star. On December 31, 1947, he was united in marriage to Myra Belle Francis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in the Wellman community. Verl served on the Iowa Highway Patrol from 1946 - 1948, he then farmed and later worked as a mechanic at Sheller Globe in Iowa City for 21 years retiring in 1985. Verl was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Farmers Lodge No. 168 A.F & A.M., and the Charles Polton American Legion Post 427. Verl died on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 91 years. Verl is survived by his wife Myra of Kalona; three son's Raymond (Barb) of Davenport, Dennis (Nancy) of Longmont, CO, Keith (Diane) of Kalona; five grandchildren Heather Davisson of Delray Beach, FL, Chad (Sara) Davisson of Bixby, OK, Angie (Todd) Johnson of Davenport, Dana (Nick) Striegel of Kalona, Ross Davisson and friend Jamie Tadlock of Coralville; 10 great grandchildren; and two sister's Leota Crim of Washington and Evelyn Guthrie of Sun City West, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Rodney. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Rev. John King will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 PM on Friday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home where the family will greet fiends from 4-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and Pleasantview Home.
