Vera Theresa Cable, age 69, of rural North English, died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg, Iowa. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her husband Richard Cable of North English; 2 daughters: Susie Ronek (Jeff) of Anamosa, IA; Patty Cable (Randy Larson) of Marengo; 2 granddaughters: Renee Sorden and Hannah Cable-Larson; 2 great grandsons: Bentley Sorden-Schott and Noah Sorden; and 11 brothers and sisters. Vera was preceded in death by her parents Vera was born on February 25, 1940 in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of James and Mary (Skinner) Shepard. She was married to Richard Bauer Cable on March 4, 1961 in North English. They have lived in the North English community since their marriage. Vera worked 7 years at Owens Brush in Iowa City and at Amana Refrigeration in Amana for 25 years.
