Vera Lucille Ruegsegger was born in the Champion Hill community near Parnell, Iowa the daughter of Avery and Zella (McDowell) Marine. On January 17, 1933 she was united in marriage to Gerald Ruegsegger in Rock, Island, Illinois. To this union four children were born. They lived and farmed in the Wellman community. Vera was a member of the Champion Hill Methodist Church until her marriage and then transferred her membership to the Franklin Methodist Church. Vera died on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a brief illness at the age of 92 years. Vera is survived by a son Kenneth Ruegsegger and wife Marilyn of West Liberty; a daughter Marcia Lee Wood of Wellman, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a sister Ruth Detweiler of Brownsville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, two sons Duane and Kermit; a granddaughter Lisa Wood; and two brothers Carroll Marine and Marion Marine.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and Wellman-Scofield Public Library.
