Vera Ellen Gascho was born October 17, 1916 near Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Yost and Josephine (McArtor) Yoder. She attended Eagleville country school. On February 14, 1935 she was united in marriage to John Glen Gascho at the Methodist Parsonage in Joetown. Vera was a homemaker and she worked at a café and beauty shop in Wellman and did house keeping in Iowa City. She lived in the Wellman community until moving to the Pleasantview Home in Kalona in 1991. She was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy, quilting and making cinnamon rolls. Vera went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a long illness at the age of 91 years. Vera is survived by four daughters - Janice Berger and husband Dennis of Wellman; Muriel Lehman of Iowa City; Judy Walter and fiancé Deane Sarby of Cedar Rapids; Karen Dunn and husband Doug of Marion; a son David Gascho and wife Mindi of Solon; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister - Laurine Schlabaugh of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April of 1975; a son-in-law Don Lehman; a brother Walter Yoder; and three sisters - Luva Jones, Mary Bontrager and Elsie Slaubaugh.
A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home.
