V. Arlene Parsons, age 65, died at her home in What Cheer on Monday, May 2, 2011. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 5, 2011, from 4 PM to 7 PM. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Vivian Arlene Parsons was born on June 2, 1945, in Washington, IA, the daughter of Lawrence and Thelma Perrin Hudson. She grew up in the Wellman and North English areas and attended school in North English, Kinross and West Chester. She obtained her GED from Kirkwood College. Arlene lived 12 years in Alaska. She worked as a CNA with Home Health Care and at the University of Iowa Hospitals. On September 8, 1984, Arlene married Glenn Parsons in Ollie, IA. They made their home in Wellman, West Chester, and in Oklahoma before moving to What Cheer in 2006. Arlene is survived by her husband Glenn of What Cheer; nine children: Glenda (Steve) Mason of Luther, OK; Lonita (Robert) Maarel of Waynesville, MO; Deb Bird of New Sharon, IA; Jim (Catherine) Hiller of Fairbanks, AK; Angela (Ben) Saddler of Sedalia, MO; Tracey Hiller of Wellman, IA; Annette (Tony) Price of Anchorage, AK; Christina (Thomas) Raymond of Sedalia, MO; and Jeff Hiller of Fairbanks, AK; 30 grandchidren; 32 great grandchildren; a sister Maxine Stagner of Columbus Junction, IA; brothers Vernon (Dick) Hudson of South English, IA; Gerald Hudson of Stevensville, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ray, Tom and Gene Hudson.
