Tressie Irene Morrison was born on November 28, 1911, near North English, IA, a middle child of Charles LeRoy (Roy) and Bertha Bair Johnston. Tressie was afflicted with severe asthma from the age of two but lived a long and full life. Her illness prevented her from attending high school, much to her chagrin. So as a young teen, she continued her education at home. She also stayed with others and worked as a "hired girl", where she cared for their homes and children and she perfected the art of homemaking and motherhood. Her fondest memories as a young girl were chording on the piano and playing for dances with her family. Tressie was united in marriage to Dyle D. Morrison on August 22, 1932 in Aledo, IL. They made their home in the South English community. Dyle preceded her in death in February 1975. Sports became her hobby at home: tennis, basketball, football, baseball--- she loved them all. She enjoyed company yet was hard to get out of her home. Tressie lived three years with her daughter in Ackley and Greene, IA before moving to Keswick, IA, in 1979. She moved to North English in 1994, and became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in April 2004. Tressie died at the Care Center on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 following a long illness at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 14 days. She is survived by 2 sons: Don Morrison (Marilyn) of South English, IA and Wayne Morrison (Ellen) of Keswick, IA; 3 daughters: Carolee Senger (Delmar) of Olathe, KS: Marsha Steinhart (Terry) of Sigourney, IA and Debra Bellinghausen (Jerry) of Britt, IA: 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and a sister Elma Morrison of North English, IA. Tressie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters: Ila Lown, Eldon Johnston, Vern Johnston, Grace Morrison, Cloyd Johnston, Treva Wilhite, Vivian Bair, Ward Johnston and Wade Johnston. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Christian Church in Kinross, IA, at 10:30 AM Friday, March 17, 2006 with Pastors James Stout and Don Ridenour officiating. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery, rural South English. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. A memorial fund has been established for the Kinross Christian Church or the English Valley Care Center. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
