Williamsburg- Tony J. Polich, was born June 6, 1913, in Albia, Iowa, son of Joseph and Filipina (Vidas) Polich. He was a member of the First Federated Church, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Doris Wilkinson on July 24, 1937, in Chariton, Iowa. Together they farmed in Chariton, Polk City and Johnston areas before moving to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg, in February 2005. Tony moved to the English Valley Care Center in North English, in September 2005. Tony was a well known corn husking champion, he won the Iowa championship several times and the national title 3 times. He was a trapper and coon hunter. He served as a board member for the Living History Farms, in Des Moines. Tony was noted for his sense of humor and a strong love for the Lord, his family and friends. Tony died Monday, October 8, 2007, at the English Valley Care Center, in North English, from complications of alzheimers, at the age of 94 years. He is survived by three daughters: Connie (Lanny) Robbins, Midland Michigan, Pat (Gar) Mayer, Williamsburg, Iowa and Sandra (John) Fausch of Louden, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters: Matilda, Zora and Elizabeth and two brothers: George & Eddie. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris (August 31, 2005), three sisters and two brothers. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Nygren of the Corner Stone Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be 2:30 P.M. at the Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines. Visitation will be on Friday, from 9 A.M. until service time. Memorials are for the Living History Farms.
